WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD The Yarn Deli
Out of a shared vision, The Yarn Deli was born! Sharon Mooney and Becky Curran met a mere fifteen months ago. They soon discovered that they had a shared vision of what a yarn shop should be: a place where knitters could come and sit, knit, be. Both had the desire to specialize in natural fibers and to promote companies that operated under socially conscious business practices, including coops from around the world. They formed their partnership in June of 2006 and on October 1st, they opened for business.
Sharon is an expert knitter and knitwear designer. She has been knitting for over 40 years. She owns the pattern company, Knitting Knoodle and has designed for several knitting books and also for the yarn company, Cherry Tree Hill. Sharon has worked in yarn shops for many years and has also been a watercolor artist and taught art at two local private elementary schools. She has been married for over 30 years to her husband, Al, has one daughter and recently became a grandmother.
Becky was an elementary school teacher for 6 years and is a massage therapist. She has been knitting for half of her life and also loves to spin, weave and paint with fiber using needle felting techniques. Due to her teaching background, she loves to teach these handcrafts to beginners. She is married to Ron, who is the co-owner and auctioneer of their other business, Redlands Antique Auction. They just celebrated their 10th anniversary.
Their goal has been to create a yarn shop with a HEART and a CONSCIENCE. They encourage their customers to drop in any time to knit, get help on their projects and browse their eclectic array of merchandise. Becky and Sharon recognized that their customers are valuable and want them to feel welcome any time. Whether you are an experienced knitter, or someone wanting to learn for the first time, The Yarn Deli is the shop for you.
On a global basis, they strive to support businesses that help local economies around the world. To name a few, they carry MALABRIGO, a handcrafted yarn providing income for communities of craftswomen in Uruguay, baskets from MAENDELEO IMPORTS supporting villages in Africa. They also carry a wide selection of the affordable, yet quality knitting wool from BROWN SHEEP, a family run business in Nebraska, knitting supplies from LANTERN MOON - a company helping the people of Vietnam and much, much, MORE!!
