At last! Spring has come to Redlands! Every year, Redlands community activities seem to expand, and this year is no exception. Theatrical and musical events highlight the seasons landscape, and there promises to be something for everyone to enjoy.
In the last decade, interest in The Bard has grown beyond anyones imagination. As a result, a plethora of Shakespeare Festivals have been springing up across the nationand Redlands is no exception!
The 2007 season of the Redlands Shakespeare Festival will feature A Midsummer Night's Dream, Julius Cesar, and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Performances are free to the public and are scheduled May 10-27 at the Redlands Bowl in Smiley Park. Showtime is at 8 p.m. and a free-will offering will be collected at intermission.
The local repertory company boasts more than 50 performers and, in addition to the productions, this three-week Shakespeare Festival offers a Thursday night pre-show lecture series, Saturday workshops and special themed events.
Music lovers will enjoy the Instrument Petting Zoo and Family Concert at the University of Redlands on April 15, and will again take pleasure in Beethovens 9th Symphony being performed by the Redlands Symphony Orchestra on May 5; Cinco de Mayo celebrations will be presented in the historic downtown area on the same day. You wont want to miss Latin Jazz at the Castle on May 12, when Kimberly Crest House and Gardens presents the band Turning Point in the evening.
